It took three months in 2004. It involved the whole organisation, including
clients, staff, volunteers, and funders. As with many such consultations
about future strategic position, this consultation generated a lot
of emails and papers and discussions.
All this was faithfully made sense of and distilled into some broad propositions. Senior managers then crystallised it into statements of strategic intent which were presented to the Board for approval.
Importantly all this was then put into a simple format which was produced
in large numbers so it could be made widely available. Unlike some strategic
plans it certainly did not lie on a shelf gathering dust but was the
basis of operations over the following three years
