Tom Wilcox
Tom has 15 years’ experience in the students’ union, not for profit/charity and
public sectors. He specialises in governance, business and strategic planning, capital projects,
organisational development and change management.
Having been a sabbatical officer at Queen Mary Students’ Union and then training as an accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers’ charity/public sector department, Tom moved to financial and general management roles at the Arts Council, The Poetry Society and Whitechapel Gallery – where he continues in the role of Managing Director.
Having worked as an independent consultant and trainer since 2002, Tom formed Counterculture Partners Limited in 2008 to deliver specialist governance and finance services to students’ unions and charities. Existing clients include Liverpool Guild of Students and Liverpool Students’ Union.
With a strong interest the arts and the public realm, Tom is an independent member of the Audit and Governance committees of the London Borough of Waltham Forest and a pro bono financial advisor to two not-for-profit organisations.
Tom is a visiting lecturer at Chelsea College of Art and Byam Shaw School of Art, and a speaker
on the Clore Leadership Programme. He was previously a visiting lecturer at Goldsmiths College.
He also delivers finance training for students’ unions as an associate of Blue Edge Training.
Tom has written numerous articles in journals on issues affecting the not for profit sector
and has recently contributed to the NCVO’s updated Good Trustees Guide and has
co-written the forthcoming NCVO publication Sustainable Funding![]()
